Why Hire a Sound Recordist

the luxury on shooting and leaving the monitoring & recording of sound to the audio tech. And you have an extra pair of helping hands too decreasing time needed from shot to shot. As a camera person, it’s more pleasurable when you can shoot and the sound man or woman can concentrate on the recording. Instead of mixing sound along with everything else. Helping you with lighting or other tasks as a reliable assistant to you, a veteran sound person will be able to alert you on less ideal sound environments.

On your set or location(s). Operating a boom and camera simultaneously is not possible. I can help with the location sound mixing & recording. As well sets, moving gear and other common production tasks. If I am not too busy with multiple audio sources. With my assistance, and you will bring home the best sound recording possible when you hire me as your local freelance resource.

Managing several audio sources and getting to camera is best relegated to a sound guy. Whom can free up you as a camera person. Concentrate on shot framing, exposure, storytelling, talent direction, and all the other needs of a production as well. Hiring a sound person with the sound gear is also essential for limiting over modulated sound or reducing ambient noises in recordings.

Many benefits of hiring a freelance audio tech for a day that has done it before, and in my instance, decades. Some camera people entirely rely on sound recordist, especially cinematographers, as 35mm film cameras (excepting those with mag stripe) do not record sound. Mag/magnetic stripe being an obsolete film format.

DSLR or Mirrorless camera audio is another tricky task so hiring a soundy (audio person) is essential to recording noise free clean audio. The DSLR or mirrorless camera does not have the best audio pre-amps so your sound recording will be limited in input cable. As well signal to noise. Several cameras require the balanced levels coming from an audio source such as a mixer/recorder.

How I can help you with clean, crisp, audible sound to your camera or synced externally recorded. I have cables for about any type of camera from RED, Arri, DSLR, XLR based cameras, and ones with proprietary cables for time code as well audio input.
