Typical Synonyms for a Sound Recordist / Nicknames

The location sound mixer or sound recordist has a variant of nicknames that can keep growing as time goes on. This list is incomplete we are referring to a sound person in video or film production or broadcast TV. These include in order of most popular:

  1. Sound Recordist.
  2. Location or production sound mixer or recordist.
  3. A boom operator, and sometimes the operator solely operates the boom while the sound engineer mixes the source among others. Often a sound recordist will operate a boom, mixing sound from other sources like lavalieres, hand mics or other sources if the number of additional sources does not dominate the demand of the mixer.
  4. Male Gender: sound man, sound guy or an audio guy.
  5. Female Gender: same combinations as number for using woman for the suffix.
  6. Sound assistant, sound operator, or tech or technician.
  7. Audio assistant, mixer, tech or technician.
  8. Sound Engineer or an audio engineer.
  9. A soundy or soundie in some countries as a nickname
