Synonyms of a Sound Recordist
There are several nicknames for a sound recordist; some that are shared among countries and some that are unique to certain. Here is a brief list of a few:
Sound Recordist: this term is widely used in many countries including the USA, Europe and the UK.
Sound Assistant: Used in Europe mostly.
Sound Mixer: A sound recordist alter ego in the persona. Sometimes called a location or production sound mixer relating to the person who is a sound recordist. The sound mixer is also the audio mixing and recording hardware.
Sound Engineer: This can be someone in post-production (editing), someone that configures video editing, audio editing or production equipment, or has a design and conception of audio equipment technology. A sound engineer can also oversee a sound crew like a boom operator, utility person or other people mixing & recording sound on a video or film or television production.
Sound Guy or Audio Guy or Sound Man: Not implied a sexist or preferential to gender, but a reference to a male sound recordist.
Sound Woman: a female sound recordist.
Soundy or Soundie: Is a nickname used in England, Ireland and Scotland.
